Tucson is situated in Arizona. It is sixty miles north of the Mexican border and just over a hundred miles southeast of Phoenix. It is the biggest city in southern Arizona. There are four main mountain ranges around Tucson, which are the Tucson Mountain in the west, the Santa Catalina Mountains to the north, the Santa Rita Mountains to the south and the Rincon Mountains to the east. It is believed that this city was first visited by Paleo-Indians twelve thousand years ago and archeological excavations in the area have found a village dating back four thousand years. Tucson has a desert climate. Summer and winter are the major seasons and then there are spring, fall and monsoon season. It is often over 100 degrees F in the summer and the early summer usually features clear skies without a lot of humidity. The humidity level increases as the summer goes on.
The high humidity in the summertime in Tucson is a risk for anyone who is passionate about collecting wine. Humidity is the enemy of paper and if your wine bottle labels get moldy and come off you aren't going to be able to sell the wine for much, even if what is inside the bottle is in a perfect condition! There are wine cellar suppliers in the Tucson area as well as wine merchants who will be able to help you with your selection and ensure you get some great wines, which you can age, safely in your home wine cellar. If you do not have a wine cellar, you can get one installed or invest in a small wine cooler until you are ready to get a wine cellar.
