Denver is the most heavily populated city in Colorado and it is also the state capital. This city, which is located in the South Platta River Valley, is nicknamed the Mile High City because it has a one mile elevation about sea level. Denver has a continental semi-arid climate. Winters are dry and cold and summers are dry and lot without much rainfall. The monsoon begins in the middle of July and brings a lot of moisture and the occasional thunderstorm into the city. There are seventy nine official neighborhoods in Denver and these vary a lot. You can see everything from modern suburban developments to huge skyscrapers. The neighborhoods closest to the center of Denver tend to be older, denser and usually feature bricks as the main building material. The other neighborhoods are newer, mainly post World War II, and some try to recreate the feel of the older developments in the city whereas others offer a modern contrast.
This city was a major trading post for beef and livestock and Denver still hosts the huge National Western Stock Show every year, which features up to ten thousand animals and about seventy thousand visitors. The four big Hispanic celebrations in the city are Cinco de Mayo, the annual Lowrider show, Day of the Dead and Mexican Independence Day. New Mexican cuisine is famous in Denver. Green and red chili sauce, Denver omelet, the Colorado burrito, tamales, and stuffed chilies are really popular. Rainbow trout, Rocky Mountain oysters, and Denver sandwiches hail from there. Wine collectors will have no trouble finding great vintages and finding a local Denver wine cellar installation company to construct their dream wine cellar.
