Different Types of Wine Racks
Wine racks come in different shapes and sizes and they are made from different materials. This is nice because when you shop for wine racks it means you have a lot of choice but it can also make it harder to make a decision about which type would look best in your home. Wine racks used to be made from wood but these days you have more choice of the material used and also more choice about the size and type of wine rack. You can get pretty much any material, size, or color.
The most important thing to bear in mind about choosing a wine rack is where you are going to put it. It will need to be away from noise, warm temperatures, and light, in order to protect the wine. Fine wines can be damaged by noise, heat, and light.

If you are going to have the wine rack on display you might like to go for a contemporary metal one. Something not quite so attractive and made from wood could be better off downstairs in the basement or cellar. Always choose wine racks which allow you to store your wine bottles on their side. This ensures the cork will not dry out and let air into the bottle. If that happens your wine will soon become undrinkable.
You can get metal wine racks made from chrome, stainless steel, wrought iron and other materials. These modern-looking wine racks come in exciting designs. You can have bends and twists in metalwork which you could not have in wood. A metal wine rack is a good choice if you are going to store new wines and consume them within weeks or months.
Wooden Wine Racks
If you are looking for a timeless wine rack, what about wood? A well-designed and well-constructed wooden rack is great for basement or cellar storage, especially if you plan to age your wines over months or years.
Quality wood is resistant to mildew but allows moisture to be absorbed. This is very important for keeping the wine bottle corks moist and tight fitting in the bottle necks. Make sure there is no varnish or stain on the wood that comes into contact with your wine bottles because these things can leak odors into your precious wine.
Glass Wine Racks
Glass wine racks are attractive and etched glass is a nice way to display your wine collection. You can get basic or intricate glass wine rack designs and they will look modern and classy in any room. Humidity and temperature cannot damage glass like they can damage wood over time.
When looking for wine racks, it is a good idea to be aware of the different types, as well as your budget and the space you have available. Perhaps you have a kitchen countertop with space for a six bottle wine rack or maybe you are fortunate enough to have a large basement which you can convert into a wine cellar complete with beautiful wine racks.
