Wine Coolers - From Economic to Luxurious

If you have not been into wine for very long but you are just beginning to appreciate and collect bottles, then you might like to think about buying wine coolers. Perhaps you do not have the budget or space for a big one, in which case a small or medium sized wine cooler is better than none at all. This will give you a starting point to provide your wine collection with the correct storage conditions.

The right serving temperature for wine is very important if you want to enjoy the wine and storing the wine correctly will keep it safe from the destructive influences of too much moisture in the air or too much heat. Summer heat can actually turn a good wine into something undrinkable so investing in wine coolers makes sense.

Even if you have air conditioning, your wine will be exposed to UV light if it is not stored in a wine cooler and if you go away for a few days and turn the air conditioning off your wine will not appreciate the resulting heat from that.

Wine Coolers And Refrigerators

A regular refrigerator is too dry and cold for long-term wine storage. Also, food smells can get into the wine via the cork if the wine is in there for a long time. Why not invest in a good wine cooler to keep your wine fresh and delicious? After all, there is no point in buying fine wines if you do not have the equipment to keep them that way.

You can get wine coolers in varying sizes, from small and economical ones right up to huge luxurious ones. You might want a basic countertop wine cooler or a more advanced multiple temperature zone cooler or a dual zone cooler. Look out for wine coolers by Avanti, Danby or Haier if you want something small. There are lots of inferior ones on the market from China but these tend not to perform as well so it is worth going for a superior brand.

Recommended Wine Coolers

Sunpentown, Magic Chef, Cuisinart, Emerson, Edgesmar, and Koolatron might offer cheap wine coolers but you get what you pay for and some of these models might be more prone to breakdowns or excessive noise.

The Avanti 16 bottle thermoelectric wine cooler will fit on a countertop and uses thermoelectric cooling technology instead of a noisy compressor. This means that these wine coolers are vibration-free and run silently. They also use less electricity than ones with compressors. This machine costs $120. Good alternatives include the 6 or 12 bottle Avanti wine coolers and wine refrigerators or the Haier 12 or 18 bottle wine coolers.

You can get Cuisinart wine coolers which are thermoelectric and freestanding. These have digital controls and they look attractive. Cuisinart wine chillers are a budget option. The Avanti Little Tavern deluxe wine and beverage cooler holds sixteen bottles on four slide-out shelves lined with chrome. This machine features a sturdy steel body and a tinted glass door. This one costs $120.

The Most Expensive Wine Cooler

At the other end of the scale, there is a very expensive wine cooler from La Fraicheur, a company in Amsterdam, Holland. These wine coolers let you chill your wine for up to an hour and a half and there is also an ice cube compartment.

It comes in three editions although the gold one which is encrusted with diamonds is especially popular. Prices for the La Fraicheur wine cooler range from $15,000 to $150,000 so this one is strictly for the truly wealthy!
