Why Wine Clubs are Great for Wine Lovers
Wine clubs are designed to provide you with bottles of wine on a frequent basis. That might be weekly, monthly, quarterly or just twice a year, depending on your requirements. A wine club will provide you with red wine, white wine or both. Specialty wine shops often have their own wine clubs and vineyards also do, although some wine clubs run independently. There are also more internet-based wine clubs than ever these days and you can join these clubs online.
Why Join a Wine Club?
A wine club will give you the opportunity to sample wines you might not otherwise be able to locate. If you usually buy your wine from the grocery store in your street, for example, you might be tired of the six or eight different varieties in there. Some wine clubs are affiliated with a region and will offer, for example, Napa Valley wines, Australian wines or Spanish wines. Others will offer wines from all over the globe.
If you have a special fondness for California wine, you might like to compare California wine clubs and join one of those. Then you will be sure to get the best California wines. Some wine clubs will have different themes throughout the year and might offer Australian wines one month and then French wines with the following shipment.
Wine clubs offer reviews of wines, they compare different ones, and they send out mailings suggesting different wines which you might like to try. If you are open to sampling new kinds of wine, you might be interested in investigating wine clubs further. How Wine Clubs Began
The founder of Wine of the Month Club is believed to be the first person to think up the idea of wine clubs. Paul Kalemkiarian Sr was managing a liquor store in California and would have "monthly selections" of wine which he would recommend to customers asking for his help with their choices. When the customers started to ask for home delivery, Paul Kalemkiarian Jr (the son of the liquor store owner) would deliver the wine in a truck.
This idea was soon popular with a lot of customers and this gave Paul Kalemkiarian Sr the idea for Wine of the Month Club. This club is now run by Paul Kalemkiarian Jr and it delivers to bottles of wine each month to its members' homes. These wines are carefully selected from hundreds that Paul Kalemkiarian Jr tastes each month.
If you enjoy tasting a diverse range of wines, a wine club might be a good idea for you. A lot of people have a very casual approach to choosing wine. They will decide on their budget and whether they want a red or white wine and then grab the first bottle they see that fits the criteria. A wine club means that you will receive good quality wine which has been carefully selected by professionals for all the wine club members to enjoy for themselves.
